Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports that Mariano Rivera has designed his own jersey and t-shirt for the Major League Baseball Players Choice Signature Series lines.
After looking at last year's final jerseys for inspiration, including those designed by Andy Pettitte, Nick Swisher and Joba Chamberlain, Rivera decided he wanted the word "Yankees" in team script across the front of a navy blue jersey.
Briefly entertaining the idea of tossing in some silver metallic and soliciting opinions for what would go well with blue and white, Rivera eventually opted to stay with the Yankees' actual colors instead of going off the board.
According to the story, the apparel is at least a couple of months from being available for purchase.
Thanks nycjobs for the tip.
Marc Carig of The Star-Ledger and Pete Caldera of The Record report that Mo has reported to camp, following a delay caused by an illness that spread it's way through the Rivera household.
ESPN's Andrew Marchand reports that Mariano Rivera is late to report at camp because one of his kids has the flu. Joe Girardi said that he might make it by Wednesday.
Andy Pettitte announced his retirement from baseball on Friday. The Yankees released a handful of statements from different members of the organization, with Mariano Rivera among them.
"I'm really sad that Andy is going to retire," Rivera said. "He was so much more than a teammate to me - he was one of my closest friends. I admire everything that he has accomplished as a Yankee, but Andy was someone who always put the team first. I'm going to miss him deeply."
Good luck in retirement, Mr. Pettitte. Thank you.
