Brian Cashman told the New York Daily News that tests following Mariano Rivera's surgery to remove polyps from his throat have have revealed any additional issues. "I've been told that everything is fine," he said.
Anthony McCarron of the New York Daily News spoke with Mariano Rivera's agent, Fernando Cuza, who said that the closer's wife, Clara, had told him that the surgery "went well." They are now awaiting biopsy results to confirm that the polyps are benign.
MLB.com's Bryan Hock reports that Mariano Rivera will undergo surgery on Friday that will remove polyps, which are small growths, from the closer's vocal cords.
"I don't like surgeries, but the sooner, the better," Rivera told Hoch. "I was worried about what caused it and what kind it is. Is it benign? I don't know. I'm [thinking] positive. We have to send it to the lab and hopefully it's a good thing."
Rivera will be unable to speak for a week.
Thanks Mr. Diaz for the tip.
