04/11: Swisher Sets Up Mo For 2nd Save With Two Run Shot In 10th
Posted by: David
Rivera got the job done! He appeared in all three games of the series vs. the Orioles and earned his second consecutive save and 605th of his career.
The Yankees got ahead early when Curtis Granderson launched a two run home run off of Baltimore starter Jake Arrieta. CC Sabathia could not hold the lead but gutted out six innings since the Yankees had a depleted bullpen. CC was his own worst enemy when he tried to field a bouncer up the middle with his bare hand and it fell for an infield single. The ball would probably have been an easy double play. Andino would follow with a two run single and CC had a 38 pitch inning.
The Yankees would get the lead for a while but CC would give it back as Mark Reynolds hit a two run double to give the O's the lead at 4-3. Granderson would tie the score with a clutch single to left to score Russell Martin.
The Yankee bullpen was great again. Boone Logan and Rafael Soriano relieved CC and set up Rivera for the save. Soriano struck out Adam Jones in the bottom of the ninth with the bases loaded to extend the game into extra innings.
Swisher hit the home run ahead of a bloop double from Mark Teixeira.
Rivera struck out Matt Wieters and Mark Reynolds grounded to third for the second out. Paulino lined a single to center but Wilson Betemit popped up to short to end the game. Rivera is 0-1 on the season with 2 saves in 3 save opportunities and his 2012 season ERA now stands at 5.40.
The Yankees will have their home opener on Friday afternoon in the Bronx against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
