It was the Mariano Rivera of old on Wednesday night at Yankee stadium as he worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning to preserve a 4-3 victory for Chien Ming-Wang.

Phil Nevin led off the inning and Mo got him to fly to center for the first out. Hank Blalock was next and hit one into the upper deck but foul to go to 0-2. Mo went up the ladder on the next pitch and Blalock tried to check his swing but it was ruled a swing by the home plate umpire for the second out. Kevin Mench was the last hope and Mo got behind 3-1 but then got Mench to pop up to Jeter to end the game.

For Rivera its his eighth save of the season and seventh consecutive. He now has 387 career saves and is only three behind Dennis Eckersley for fourth place all-time. His season ERA is now lowered to 3.00.
