09/24: Mo's 51st save helps Yanks reduce magic # to 4

Posted by: David
For a second it looked like deja vu all over again. Last Friday night Mo came in for the ninth and faced Trot Nixon to start the inning and walked him. The same thing happened tonight. However, Mo got Jason Varitek to hit back to the box which he turned into a double play. Orlando Cabrera then got a fly ball double on a pop up to right field. Up next was Bill Mueller who beat Mo back in July on a walk off homerun. Tonight Mo retired him on a bouncer back to the mound. The Yankees battled all night and eventually got to Pedro in the 8th with Matsui hitting a homer to tie the score and Bernie Williams and Ruben Sierra putting together hits to take a 5-4 lead. Sheffield got a two out single in the ninth and Matsui came through again with a double high off the green monster to score Sheff. The win extends the Yankees lead over the Red Sox to 5 1/2 games.
