In a game that looked like a laugher the last thing Mariano Rivera expected was to be pitching in the ninth inning.

At one point in the game the Yankees held a 10-3 lead. The Orioles closed to 10-7 going to the bottom of the eighth and Mo began to warm up. However, the Yankees scored two in the eighth including a upper deck opposite field shot to right by A-Rod.

Embree started the ninth and surrendered a double to Jay Gibbons and a single to B.J. Surhoff which made the score 12-8. Although not a save situation, Torre called for the Sandman.

Rivera entered and on the first two pitches he recorded two outs when Javy Lopez flied to center and David Newhan grounded to second. Luis Matos hit a double down the third base line just over the glove of A-Rod allowing Surhoff to score to make it 12-9. Chris Gomez was next and Mo got him to fly to right to end the game.

Rivera is now 7-4 on the season with 40 saves and his ERA is now at 1.34.
