09/28: Rivera Gets 43rd Save as Yanks Beat O's 2-1
Posted by: David
Mariano Rivera was simply awesome tonight against the middle of the Orioles order. With only a one run lead Mo had no margin for error.
Jay Gibbons led off with a broken bat grounder to Cano at second for the first out. B.J. Surhoff then hit a soft liner to Cano for the second out. The last hope was Javy Lopez who had hit a home run and a double off of starter Shawn Chacon. Mo worked him mainly outside and got him to swing at a pitch way off the plate outside to end the game. Rivera is 7-4 on the season with 43 saves and his ERA now stands at 1.40. At this writing the Red Sox are losing to Toronto 7-2 after eight innings. If the score holds the Yankees will assume a one game lead in the AL East with four games remaining. The Cleveland Indians also lost and the Yankees gained a game on them for a potential wild card berth. CommentsNo comments yet.
