06/05: The Sandman is back! Yankees beat Bosox 13-5
Posted by: David
Mariano Rivera returned to the mound for the Yankees for the first time since May 30th in Detroit. He injured his back on Thursday, June 1st when he was putting on his spikes. He missed the last game of the Tigers series in which Kyle Farnsworth blew the save and lost the game.
Tonight in the Bronx the Yankees bombed the Red Sox by hammering Josh Beckett with a seven run second inning including three run homers from Andy Phillips and Jason Giambi. The Yankees cruised the rest of the way and Mo entered in the ninth to get the rust off. He got Alex Gonzales to ground to third for the first out and then Coco Crisp lined to Phillips at first for the second out. Mark Loretta lined a single to center before pinch hitter Alex Cora grounded right down the first base line to Phillips for the final out. Rivera is 3-3 on the year with 11 saves in 12 save opportunities and his season ERA now stands at 2.22. CommentsNo comments yet.
