Mariano Rivera pitched a scoreless ninth on Sunday afternoon to earn his 26th save of the season. He entered in the ninth with the Yankees ahead 4-2. Johnny Gomes led off and popped up to Cairo at second for the first out. Russell Branyan then struck out swinging for the second out. Tomas Perez blooped a fly ball single to right and Damon Hollins pinch hit for catcher Josh Paul. With Perez running, Hollins hit a grounder to short which Jeter handled and threw to first to end the game.
The save for Rivera is the 405th of his career. His season ERA now stand at 1.92.
