Mariano Rivera pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn his 32nd save of the season and 411th of his career.
He entered in the ninth inning with a 2-0 lead and on the first pitch to Dmitri Young got him to ground to Jeter at short for the first out. Craig Monroe was struck out on three pitches and Jose Guillen became the last hope for the Tigers. He battled and eventually blooped a soft single to center to keep the inning going. Ivan Rodriguez was next and Mo got him to ground to A-Rod at third to end the game.
Rivera saved the game for Chien Ming-Wang who is now 16-5 on the season. He pitched 7 2/3 innings and left in the eighth with two runners on. Scott Proctor relieved him and ended the inning on one pitch to Magglio Ordonez by getting him to fly to left to end the inning. Rivera's ERA now stands at 1.93.
