Mariano Rivera entered in the bottom of the eighth inning with two runners on and two outs. With the Yankees leading 5-1, the potential tying run was on deck, hence a save situation existed.

Rivera faced rookie Nick Markasis and got him to ground out to first to end the inning. The Yankees added another run in the top of the ninth to extend the scoring to 6-1.

In the bottom of the ninth, Fernando Tatis pinch hit for catcher Chris Widger and Mo got him to fly out to Abreu in right for the first out. Brian Roberts then grounded to Nick Green at second and there were two quick outs. Melvin Mora battled but eventually flew to right to end the game.

The save for Rivera is his 28th of the season and 407th of his career. His ERA on the season now stands at 1.84.
