05/04: Rivera gains second save of night as Yankees take twinbill
Posted by: David
Mariano Rivera got more saves in one day than he had for the entire rest of the season to date as he saved both ends of a doubleheader vs. the Rangers on Thursday.
In the nightcap he entered in the bottom of the ninth with a three run lead and created a little trouble for himself but pitched another scoreless inning. Brad Wilkerson led off and blooped a broken bat single over the head of Cano to start the inning. Kata then was able to single on a 3-2 pitch to left and the Rangers brought the potential tying run to the plate. Mo then got tough and struck out Gerald Laird and got Kenny Lofton to hit into a game ending double play. For Rivera, he now has three saves on the season and his ERA stands at 8.37.
