Mariano Rivera pitched another perfect inning on Wednesday night to convert his 22nd save of the season. He entered in the bottom of the eighth with two on and the Yankees clinging to a one run lead. Kevin Youkilis hit a two run homer off of Kyle Farnsworth earlier in the eighth to cut the Yankees lead to one. Mo faced Coco Crisp first and got him to bounce back to the mound to end the threat.
In the ninth, he got Eric Hinske to ground back to the mound and then got Lugo to ground to A-Rod for the second out. The last hope for Boston was Dustin Pedroia with Big Papi looming on deck. Pedroia hit a swinging bunt which Rivera fielded down the third base line and fired to Phillips at first to just nip Pedroia to end the game.
Rivera is 3-4 on the season with 22 saves in 25 save opportunities and his season ERA now stands at 3.24.
