Mariano Rivera saved the day again for the Yankees, but this time there was a little bit more excitement. With only a one run lead, Rivera faced Vernon Wells to start the inning and he delivered a leadoff single up the middle. Shannon Stewart was next and he grounded weakly to A-Rod for the first out with Wells advancing to second on the play. Lyle Overbay worked the count to 2-0, but Mo got him to ground to Jeter up the middle for the second out with Wells moving up to third on the play. Aaron Hill was next and the Sandman caught him looking to end the game and preserve the win for Joba Chamberlain.

Rivera is 0-0 on the season with 2 saves in 2 save opportunities and his ERA is 0.00.
