08/23: Rivera Gets First Save in Two Weeks as Yankees Win Opener vs. O's, 9-4
Posted by: David
Mariano Rivera, in his first appearance in six days, was sharp as a tack. He entered in the bottom of the eighth inning with the Yankees clinging to a 5-4 lead and retired Kevin Millar, on a pop up to short, to end the inning.
In the top of the ninth, the Yankees erupted for four runs on a three run homer from Cody Ransom and a solo shot from Xavier Nady. For Ransom, it was his second home run in as many ABs. In the bottom half of the inning, Rivera got Luke Scott on a liner to A-Rod for the out. After that, Ramon Hernandez made the second out on a fly to right and Jay Payton hit a grounder to third to end the game. For Rivera, it was his 29th save of the season and 472nd of his career. His 2008 season ERA now stands at 1.60. CommentsNo comments yet.
