08/23: Rivera Gets First Save in Two Weeks as Yankees Win Opener vs. O's, 9-4

Posted by: David
Mariano Rivera, in his first appearance in six days, was sharp as a tack. He entered in the bottom of the eighth inning with the Yankees clinging to a 5-4 lead and retired Kevin Millar, on a pop up to short, to end the inning.

In the top of the ninth, the Yankees erupted for four runs on a three run homer from Cody Ransom and a solo shot from Xavier Nady. For Ransom, it was his second home run in as many ABs.

In the bottom half of the inning, Rivera got Luke Scott on a liner to A-Rod for the out. After that, Ramon Hernandez made the second out on a fly to right and Jay Payton hit a grounder to third to end the game.

For Rivera, it was his 29th save of the season and 472nd of his career. His 2008 season ERA now stands at 1.60.
