08/08: Rivera Saves Mussina Masterpiece as Yankees Defeat Rangers, 3-0

Posted by: David
Mariano Rivera pitched a perfect ninth inning to save Mike Mussina's 15th win of the season. Rivera got Josh Hamilton on a fly ball to center. He then retired Marlon Byrd on a grounder to short and caught Brandon Boggs looking to end the game.

For Rivera, it's his 28th save of the season as he remains perfect in save opportunities for the 2008 season. For his career, he now has 471 saves and is within seven of tying Lee Smith for 2nd on the all time career saves list. His ERA for the season now stands at 1.43.
