04/21: Rivera Saves Game for Pettitte as Yankees Defeat A's 5-3
Posted by: David
Mariano Rivera gained his fourth save of the season and 486th of his career as the Yankees defeated the A's 5-3 on Tuesday night at the new Yankee stadium.
Rivera entered with a two run lead and faced Kurt Suzuki to start the inning. Suzuki battled and got his fourth hit of the game as he singled up the middle. Travis Buck pinch hit and grounded to second. Cano bobbled the ball briefly but then recovered and tagged the runner going to second for the first out of the inning. Ryan Sweeney then struck out swinging and Orlando Cabrera popped out on the first pitch trying to bunt to end the game. Mo is 0-0 on the season with 4 saves in as many save opportunities. He has pitched six innings and surrendered five hits, no walks and no runs. His season ERA remains at 0.00. CommentsMoises Young Diaz wrote:
I do agree with you, Edtuva; you are 100% right, 57th time, and counting and more to come; Andy and Mo looks pretty good and they are very special combination. Mo only pitch to strike 12-8. You look, as usual great with good control; keep it up, we need you and be ready for the Boston Red Sox Series. Arriba Mariano y Pettitte.

"After Mariano Rivera nailed down the save in the ninth, he and Pettitte tied a Major League record of career games won and saved by the same combination of pitchers, held by starter Bob Welch and closer Dennis Eckersley with 57. "
