05/01: Rivera Regains Form With Fifth Save of Season Vs. Halos
Posted by: David
Mariano Rivera regained his solid form on Thursday night in the Bronx. He did give up a leadoff single but struck out two and retired the last batter on a weak grounder back to the mound.
Fans were beginning to think that Mo was losing something, but he has typically gone through early season woes only to regain his mastery. The Yankees rallied for three runs in the bottom of the eighth to break a tie score and give them the lead at 7-4 heading to the ninth. With yours truly in attendance, the Sandman entered and it was over in a heartbeat. Torii Hunter led off with a solid single to center. Mo then caught Kendry Morales looking for the first out and blew away Mike Napoli for the second. Yankee killer Howie Kendrick was disposed of with a bouncer back to the mound to end the game. Rivera is 0-0 on the season with 5 saves in 6 save opportunities. His ERA now stands at 2.79. Mo is now only 13 saves shy of the magic 500 for his career. I believe that Mo got his confidence and composure; and focus and get back in the grove of doing his job, as usual.
