05/10: Rivera Rebounds With Sixth Save vs. O's

Posted by: David
This time Johnny Damon's heroics weren't wasted. Joba had a tough first inning again. He surrendered a three run home run to Aubrey Huff and had to look at him do the fist and forearm pumps to mock the young Yankee phenom.

However, Joba did not allow another run for the next five innings. Robinson Cano homered off of Jamie Walker and got the Yankees within a run. He was replaced by Johnson and he gave up infield hits to Francisco Cervelli and Derek Jeter. Damon then took him deep to give the Yankees the lead for good at 5-3.

Phil Coke worked scoreless innings in the 7th and 8th and gave way to Mo in the ninth. Greg Zaun fouled out to first for the first out of the inning. Mo then walked Felix Pie (Rivera's first walk of the season) but then struck out Robert Andino looking and got Brian Roberts to bounce back to the box to end the game.

For Rivera, it's his sixth save in seven save opportunities. Its his 488th of his career and his season ERA now stands at 3.65.

Good game and great hitting by Johny Damon; keep doing it. The Yanks needs you for the next series, against the Blue Jay, Toronto, starting on Tuesday. Mo, you were awesome and you need that save yesterday; forget the past and concentrate in the future; the velocity was much better and the cutter was pretty good.
