05/29: Rivera Records 10th Save of Season as Yankees Move Into 1st Place

Posted by: David
Mariano Rivera recorded his tenth save of the 2009 season in the opener of the series vs. the Cleveland Indians on Friday night. The Yankees were leading 3-1 entering the bottom of the ninth.

Rivera faced Shin-Soo Choo to start the inning and he looped a single to left. Mo then struck out Asdrubal Cabrera and Grady Sizemore. He finished the game by getting Victor Martinez to ground to Teixeira unassisted.

For Mariano, it is his 10th save in 11 save opportunities for the season and the 492nd save of his career. His season ERA now stands at 2.62.

As a side note, the save tonight by Rivera for Andy Pettitte is the 58th time that Rivera has saved a Pettitte win surpassing the mark held by Dennis Eckersley for Bob Welch.
