05/07: Rivera Strikes Out Side in Ninth but Yankees Lose Again 4-3
Posted by: David
Mark Teixeira came through with a bases clearing double in the eighth to tie the score but the Yankees could not bring him home and Mo was summoned to come into a tie game.
He faced Dioner Navarro to start the inning and Navarro singled to left as Damon just missed a diving catch. Mo then struck out B.J. Upton and Carl Crawford looking and got Evan Longoria swinging to end the inning. Mo was replaced by Phil Coke who surrendered a home run to Carlos Pena to put the Rays ahead 4-3. Johnny Damon doubled in the bottom of the inning with one out and also got to third on a wild pitch. However, this time Teixeira popped out to short right and Matsui flew out of left to end the game. Rivera is 0-0 on the season with 5 saves in 6 save opportunities. His season ERA now stands at 2.53. CommentsMoises Young Diaz wrote:
Looking back to the first 5 weeks of the regular season; the NYY problems were: 1) BP has been unreliable; 2) Lack of clutch hitting; 3) Players injuries, etc.
Pulling Mo out for the 10th last night by Joe G. is questionable. Well, you have to look at some many variable/strategies during that moment of the game; the team is not hitting RISP, Mo pitched to 4 batters (9th), rainy, weath and cold. My personal opinion is that Mo should not pitch more than one inning so far, until the weather gets better from June on and give him time to get in good shape from his operation.
