08/20: Rivera Needs Only Seven Pitches to Garner 36th Save of Season
Posted by: David
Mariano Rivera barely broke a sweat as he made quick work of the Oakland A's in the bottom of the ninth to preserve a 3-2 win as the Yankees concluded the West Coast part of their current road trip.
Chad Gaudin started and walked five and struck out five but didn't give up any runs. Aceves pitched two and a third and surrendered two runs. Phil Coke got one out, Phil Hughes pitched a scoreless eighth inning and then handed it over to the Sandman. Rivera faced Adam Kennedy to start the inning and got him to pop up to third for the first out. Rajai Davis then grounded to short and Mark Ellis flew out to right to end the game. Rivera is 1-2 on the season with 36 saves in 37 save opportunities. His season ERA now stands at 1.90. After a travel day on Thursday the Yankees conclude their road trip with a three game series at Fenway Park vs. the Boston Red Sox starting on Friday night. CommentsNo comments yet.
