08/28: Rivera Pitches Scoreless Ninth in Yankee Extra Inning Win
Posted by: David
CC Sabathia was coasting until the seventh when he tired a bit and gave up two runs to tie the score. The Yankees got two runs early on home runs from Derek Jeter and Johnny Damon and Sabathia and Buehrle dueled back and forth.
CC left after seven and gave way to Phil Hughes who was simply awesome. He faced Jim Thome, Paul Konerko and Jermaine Dye and struck all of them out swinging. Rivera entered in the ninth and got Carlos Quentin on a grounder to third for the first out. Alex Rios popped out to first and Alexi Ramirez was caught looking to end the inning. With the effort Rivera lowered his ERA to 1.83. In the tenth, after two were out, the Yankees worked walks by Matsui and Swisher and left it up to Cano. He delivered with a three run walk off homer to win for the Yankees 5-2. CommentsNo comments yet.
