08/05: Rivera Gets 31St Save of Season Despite Giving Up Three Hits

Posted by: David
Mo entered in the eighth with two on and a three run lead and proceeded to give up a two run double to Vernon Wells. The liner from Wells just eluded Johnny Damon and the score was within a run at 4-3. He retired the next batter to end the inning.

In the ninth Mo gave up two hits and was 2-0 on Aaron Hill when he popped out of center field to end the game. The win coupled with a Red Sox loss increased the Yankee lead in the AL East to 1 1/2 games. Rivera's ERA for the 2009 season was lowered to 1.96.
