04/13: Rivera Rescues Robertson as Yankees Beat Angels On Opening Day
Posted by: David
It looked like Mo would not be needed on Opening Day with the Yankees leading the Angels 7-1 starting the ninth inning. However, David Robertson imploded and gave up three quick hits to load the bases with no outs. Robertson was able to strike out a batter without a run scoring. The next batter was former Yankee Bobby Abreu and he delivered a grand slam to cut the Angels deficit to two runs at 7-5.
The game situation was now eligible for a save and The Sandman was called. He fell behind Torii Hunter 3-1 but came back to get him swinging and then faced World Series MVP Hideki Matsui and he popped up on the first pitch to Cano to end the game. The save for Rivera was his third in three save opportunites and his 2010 season ERA remains at 0.00. Today's game included home runs from Nick Johnson and Derek Jeter and a two run single from A-Rod. Andy Pettitte pitched six strong innings and gave way to Chan Ho Park who pitched the seventh and eighth. CommentsJohn Lewis-Moore wrote:
Mo is always ready and dependable, makes him the greatest. Always good to see Mo, especially in a home opener where he got his 5th ring.
