04/21: Rivera Finishes Off A's In Opener of Road Trip

Posted by: David
Damaso Marte looked wild and walked the first batter of the ninth inning. Even though the situation was not eligible for a save, Girardi still summoned Mo.

With the Yankees leading 7-3 and a runner on base, Mariano Rivera entered and faced Cliff Pennington. Mo blew him away swinging and then got pinch hitter Gabe Gross to hit into a game ending double play.

It was the seventh appearance of the year for Rivera and he has a record of 0-0 with five saves in as many opportunities and his ERA still remains perfect at 0.00.

The game was highlighted by a three run home run from A-Rod and a two run single from Nick Swisher. Javier Vazquez started and went 5.1 innings with 100 plus pitches. He surrendered three runs all on home runs and was credited with the win.
