04/30: Jeter's Clutch Hits Sets Up Rivera For Seventh Save of Season
Posted by: David
The Yankees fell behind early as Andy Pettitte struggled through six innings. Paul Konerko took Andy deep to right for a three run home run in the first inning.
The Yankees battled back against Freddy Garcia with an RBI double from A-Rod and a run scoring single from Robinson Cano. The Chisox went back ahead 4-2 on a sacrifice fly. Both pitchers settled down until the sixth when Derek Jeter took Freddy Garcia deep to left to tie the score at four. Thornton releived Garcia and Jeter tripled to right just beyond the diving try of Jayson Nix to score two runs and give the Yankees the lead at 6-4. Alfredo Aceves worked the seventh and Damaso Marte and Joba Chamberlain worked a scoreless eighth to set up Mo for the save. Rivera faced pesky Juan Pierre to start the inning and he worked the count to 3-2 before punching a soft line drive to A-Rod at third for the first out. Alexei Ramirez and Gordon Beckham also battled to 3-2 counts but Mo got both of them swinging. Ramirez whiffed on a two seam inside sinker and Beckham ended the game by missing Mo's patented cutter. For Rivera it was his seventh save of the season in seven save opportunities and was also his 51st consecutive save at home. For his career Mariano now has 533 saves. His 2010 season ERA still remains perfect at 0.00. CommentsNo comments yet.
