05/14: Rivera Pitches Another Perfect Inning In Non-Save Situation vs. Twins

Posted by: David
Francisco Cervelli spoiled Mo's chance for a save with his triple to extend the Yankee lead to four runs at 8-4.

The game was a seesaw the entire night. The Twins went up 1-0 on a bases load walk by Burnett. The Yankees went ahead 2-1 with Brett Gardner tying the score with a home run. Joe Mauer tied the game with a home run. The Yankees struck right back with Gardner scoring on a double from Teixeira.

The M and M boys however did it again with Mauer tying the score with a solid single up the middle and Morneau doubling to right center to give the Twins the lead. Those hits were off of Marte who was not sharp.

The Twins walked Tex to load the bases in front of A-Rod and he delivered with his 19th career grand slam to put the Bombers ahead at 7-4.

Joba Chamberlain struck out the side in the eighth and was credited with the win.

In the ninth Rivera faced Denard Span to start the inning and he grounded to second. Orlando Hudson bounced back to Mo for the second out and Mauer grounded to second to end the game.

Rivera still has no record on the season and his ERA remains perfect at 0.00.

Again, Mo looks pretty good, specially when the game is out of another save. He pitched 11-9, so Mo will be able to pitch today.

Mariano, the Panamanian Sensational, from Puerto Caimito, La Chorrera, Panama; you are the best and keep it up; and continue pitching the same way, with location and control, over and over again. Arriba Mariano.
