05/30: Rivera Pitches Perfect Inning in Non-Save Situation vs. Tribe

Posted by: David
It looked like it was going to be another flat day for the Yankees. Justin Masterson was dealing for Cleveland and A.J. Burnett all but matched him. The Tribe went out to an early 1-0 lead and then in the seventh due to an error from Derek Jeter on a potential third out they were able to score two more runs and extend the lead to 3-0.

The Yankees charged back when Jeter delivered a two out two run single to draw the Yankees to within a run at 3-2 On the play Brett Gardner just slid home with his hand just touching the plate prior to the tag from Lou Marson. Teixeira then hit a three run bomb to the bleachers in left center and the Yankees had the lead at 5-3.

The Yankees added two more runs in the eighth to remove the save situation but since Mo was up he came in the game.

He struck out Russell Branyan to start the inning and also got Jhonny Peralta for the second out. Valabeuna broke his bat and it came flying back to the mound at Rivera. Mo jumped over the bat, still fielded the ball and threw the runner out to end the game.

Rivera is 0-1 on the season with 10 saves in 11 save opportunities and his 2010 season ERA now stands at 1.65.
