06/04: Rivera Records 12th Save as Yankees Sweep Orioles
Posted by: David
It got a little bit hairy for me as I was watching my favorite player. With the Yankees enjoying a 6-3 lead, before I knew it the potential tying run was at the plate and there were no outs.
CC Sabathia pitched very well. He only gave up three hits, but one of them was a two run home run to Luke Scott to pull the Birds to within three runs. The Yankees erupted early as they went out to a lead. A-Rod extended the lead with a two homer. The O's bounced back somewhat on a long home run from Adam Jones but all in all I enjoyed watching my favorite team. As for Rivera, he faced Nick Markakis to start the ninth and walked him which is very unusual for the Sandman. In an effort to run the ball inside on Ty Wigginton, he ended up hitting him with a pitch. The scenario I feared was right before me. Two runners on, no outs and Luke Scott up at the plate. As I mentioned Scott hit a bomb earlier in the game. However, because Mo is so automatic, many of us simply don't appreciate his ability to be graceful under pressure. He struck out Luke Scott, then sawed the bat off in the hands of Garrett Atkins for the second out. To end it, he struck out Adam Jones to end the game. For Rivera, the save was his 12th of the season and 538th of his career. His 2010 season ERA now stands at 1.47. CommentsNo comments yet.
