Mariano pitched the 9th in last night's 6-2 win over the Texas Rangers. The offense was led by Derek Jeter who went 2 for 3 with 3 RBI, 1 run and 1 SB as well as Johnny Damon, who was 2 for 3 with 2 runs and 1 SB. Moose started and lasted 6 innings, allowing just 2 ER. Bruney, Myers, Proctor and Farnsworth combined to pitch the 7th and 8th innings, setting up Mariano's appearance with a 4 run lead.

The first batter he faced was Sammy Soda who singled to right. The next batter, Hank Blalock, hit a ground ball, which allowed Soda to be forced out at second. Ian Kinsler was next up, striking out. Finally, Brad Wilkerson flied out to center to end it. It wasn't a save situation, but it pulls Mariano's ERA down to 7.71.
