Mike Mussina pitched seven strong innings and A-Rod contributed three hits and an RBI as the Yankees edged the A's 2-1 on Friday night in the Bronx.
Rivera was summoned in the eighth inning with two outs and two on. He replaced a visibly upset Kyle Farnsworth who left the mound and threw his mitt against the wall of the dugout as he left the field.
Rivera struck out Jack Cust to end the eight. In the ninth he retired Chavez on a grounder to first and struck out Ellis and Crosby. With two out, he hit Johnson with the first pitch. Mo was very impressive and gained his 10th save in 12 save opportunities for the season.
