The numbers that Mo put up in 2007 would be considered a good season for most closers. Fortunately, Mo is not most closers. With that in mind, 2007 ended up being his worst as a full season reliever. He ended up with a record of 3-4, 30 saves and 71.1 innings pitched over 67 games with a 3.15 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and .248 BAA. Those aren't bad numbers at all - they're just uncharacteristic of Mo. His highest ERA before this year, since becoming a full time reliever, was 2.85. His lowest save total was 28, but that was in a season where he only pitched in 45 games due to injury. Besides that, the lowest total was last year's 34, when he pitched in 4 fewer games.
Unfortunately, a terrible 2 weeks in April skewed his numbers. From April 28 through his last game, his ERA was just 2.23. So, if you look at that, you could say that he got tattooed a bit in April, but then was business as usual for the rest of the year. The numbers certainly support it.
Thanks to a terrific comeback, the Yankees are back in the postseason and Mo will get a chance to improve on his already incomprehensibly impressive postseason resume. The Yankees have been in the postseason every year that he's played. He's pitched in 73 postseason games, with an 8-1 record, 34 saves and a 0.80 ERA. The Yankees ALDS series with the Indians kicks off on Thursday at 6:30 PM ET on TBS.
