The game started late due to rain and then after 5 1/2 innings, the rains came again. This time the delay was for 53 minutes. The Yankees had the lead at 3-1 before the rain came and Andy Pettitte was dueling Yohan Santana. Santana walked four and three of the walks scored. Pettitte came back out after the rain delay and surrendered a solo homer to David Wright to make the score 3-2.

Jose Veras pitched the seventh and Kyle Farnsworth was great in the eighth, pitching a perfect inning including striking out Carlos Beltran. Beltran struck out all four times on the day.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Yankees called on the Sandman and he delivered as usual. He simply overpowered Carlos Delgago with cutters inside and struck him out swinging on four pitches. Fernando Tatis fought off a cutter inside and lofted a fly ball to right which Abreu caught for the second out. Trot Nixon the former Red Sox and Yankee killer was the last hope for the Mets and Mo finished him off in three pitches, the last one looking on the outside corner to end the game.

The save for Rivera is his 22nd of the season and 465th of his career. He is only 13 behind Lee Smith for 2nd place on the all time career saves list. His season ERA now stands at 0.74.

Too much Mariano. Arriba Mo. Perfect, Reliable, Consistent and Durable. Good movement (94 MPH) and great control, pitching only 10 strikes out of 12 pitches; the greatest reliver ever.....
