The New York Times quotes Mariano as saying he hopes to close out the upcoming All-Star game in New York.
Rivera never mentioned the possibility of starting during an interview about the All-Star Game on Wednesday. Instead, he discussed the importance of closing the game. That is what Rivera has done since 1997, and done better than anyone else.
I hope Tito gives me the opportunity to close, Rivera said, referring to Francona by his nickname. It would be nice.
While he hasn't officially said that Mo won't start - pretty much all indications point to him closing the game.
